The first thing that people ask me when they find out that I work from home in affiliate marketing is “can you teach me how to do that too?” Have a solid resource is essential and the one that I recommend over and over is the Super Affiliate Handbook. The first version if it was written by Rosalind Gardner years ago and in fact was the first ebook that I purchased to learn more about affiliate marketing. It has been updated many times over the year and I decided last week to get the latest version to see how relevant it still is.
Rosalind has done a great job keeping it current and it was last updated October 2009. Her blueprint for creating a business around affiliate marketing has withstood the test of time. This 210 page ebook starts at the very beginning explaining what affiliate marketing is and the 6 different ways that you can earn money. She has tips on how to organize your business data (something that is not always my strong point) and what kind of software to use.
She tells you how to find a niche and conduct market research to decide if it will be a profitable one. She devotes a good deal of time to actually setting up your website, which if you have never done so before, is a great thing to know how to do yourself. Sure you can outsource it, but when you are just getting started you may not have the money to invest in that. Plus using WordPress, as both Rosalind and I recommend, makes it so very simple. I love her 10 Design Rules of Thumb that will help you to build a functional website while avoiding some no-nos.
Content is such a key part of any website and it is what gets your visitors to your site and keeps them sticking around to buy. Rosalind gives tips on ways to build content, even if you are not a writer. Her use of product reviews is what turns readers into buyers and she gives instructions on how to write a compelling product endorsement. She even gives 25 pre-built headlines for article writing that you can just plug your relevant keywords into. Very handy!
Once you have your niche and your website then you need a way to monetize it. The Super Affiliate Handbook has details about the various ad networks that you can use to earn money with as well as the top affiliate networks (although personally I wish she would have mentioned Shareasale). She has 20 questions to ask before joining any affiliate program to decide if it is the best one for your site.
Just building a site and putting it on the internet is no guarantee that you will get traffic or earn money. It is important to market it. Rosalind offers 31 different ways to do so, including both online and offline methods, as well as some things to avoid.
Wrapping up she offers tips on managing your business, how to grow your business, ways to solve problems, and an appendix filled with resources.
I offer my Super Affiliate Handbook video review for you to watch below. Notice my multiple use of the word ‘great’ and how polished I sound 😉
If you are interested in starting your own affiliate marketing business or already have one and want a plan that you can follow time and time again, then I highly recommend that you download the Super Affiliate Handbook.
